Got my blue shirt with white dots on And I'm headin' out just singin' my song Got my blue shirt with white dots on And I'm headin' out just singin' my song This world is painted blue With white polka dots before my eyes This world takes part of me with it White polka dot clouds linin' the skies And they cry and cry Her world was painted blue With white polka dots that were just like mine Now my world's painted blue too White polka dots keep me warm at night Keep me safe from fright

But the kittens gettin' frisky And the noose tightens 'round my crotch It's not that I have deeper feelings It's just that I just don't like to watch But the kittens gettin' frisky They're the ones who've got it all so free And I sit and watch the colors Pink and black simultaneously But the kittens gettin' frisky And even though I cannot see There's a part of my poor conscience Always wishing it were me But the kittens gettin' frisky Lickin' up each other's skin It's not that i'm in love too It's just that I feel that I'll never win Carry me home and tuck me into bed Please make sure that I'm well fed But one thing I want I sure do miss Send me a kitten I can frisk If the kittens weren't so frisky I could live in greater peace Even in this noisy city A man should have the right to sleep Sunday morning comin' up Comin' down and up again These are times I realize How lucky to have friends Carry me home and tuck me into bed Please make sure that I'm well fed But one thing I want I sure do miss Send me a kitten I can frisk

Office, office, office worker failure Office, office, office worker failure Don't know just which button starts the copier My boss tells me my work is getting sloppier I can only type five words a minute It's a big mess and I am stuck within it Office, office, office worker failure Office, office, office worker failure Office, office, office worker failure Office, office, office worker failure They can always tell when I'm hung over Hired in August, fired in October Can't remember the alphabetical order Got my hand caught in the mail sorter Office, office, office worker failure Office, office, office worker failure Office, office, office worker failure Office, office, office worker failure Before work today, decided to get high My co-worker saw me as I was walking by Told my boss just what she had been seeing Got arrested while in the bathroom peeing Office, office, office worker failure Office, office, office worker failure You're fired!!!

Darling don't you ever leave me If you do you will bereave me I will cut my wrist, believe me Both my parents they will grieve me They're the people who conceived me Voodoo forces won't retrieve me 'Cuz you deceived me! It's you I can't afford to lose There's no one else out there to choose And if you go I'll turn to booze So quit your actin' like a flooze Walk a mile in my shoes Now shut up and watch the news 'Cuz I feel abused! If you go then I will fret Thought I made your panties wet Now you're runnin' off with Bette So don't you leave with my Clorets And don't take my Doors cassette Or you'll leave my heart in debt I won't call collect!

Cause trouble just by showing up Cause trouble just by being there They've got a price on me A dollar and a half for every hair Just by breathing I'm in violation of the law I think I'll cut off all my fingers with a saw You'll have to carry on your big revolt without me This world already knows too many things about me They don't like me at the fifth precinct because I stink 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8! Unplug guitar, I'll plug it back in Turn fuzzbox off, I'll turn it back on Sabotage complete, you think? Guess again, I ain't so easily won A sucker gig that lasted well over a year Now you'll do anything to have them brand me queer I guess I'll hide out in the woods for a few years You'd miss me in awhile, you'd cry a million tears They don't like me at the fifth precinct because I stink 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8! In no position to judge me In no position to waste my time Any comrade of a fascist Surely ain't no friend of mine A vote in Rolling Stone don't justify your greed How can I create when your form's no longer free? A novelty 'cuz I refuse to be elitist The way you've shut me out has really gotten me pissed They don't like me at the fifth precinct because I stink 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8!

about

PRODUCED BY RAY BRAZEN

All songs written by Ray except
"Office Worker Failure" (Brazen, Prato, Heaney)

Recorded in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY
Summer 1993 - Summer 1994

Thanks to Scott Prato and Chris Delaney

Originally released on RAVETAPES August 1994

This album was originally released exclusively on cassette in the summer of 1994. It is Ray's last album to be released in tape format, and his first to consist entirely of original material. The album marks the transitional point at which he stopped using his original name of Ray Zinnbrann. Unable to think of a better new name at the time, he originally released Face the Now under the name "Raymond Z." However, this name did not stick, and the following year his name would be permanently changed to Ray Brazen.

Face the Now is a direct precursor of The Racing Brain of Ray Brazen, which didn't appear until almost ten years later, thanks in part to his involvement both with the band Thai Raid and his series of websites related to obscure music groups close to his heart (Los Dug Dugs, the Godz, TV Toy).

Copies of the original cassette release of Face the Now are extremely rare and were only distributed locally throughout New York City. Although a few songs from the tape ("Frisky Kittens," "Don't Leave Me Darling," "State Line in the Sky" and "Office Worker Failure") have appeared online in various forms over the last several years, this is the first reissue of the original cassette in its entirety.
