This is the second release of EGYPTIAN PILE CURE, a sound project created and produced by Ray Brazen. Unlike the first release which consisted of random performances, this new release is much more thought out and conceptual in nature.
Having immersed myself in experimental music since I was a child, one thing I notice in today's noise landscape is that today's acts for the most part create randomly improvised and titled pieces for public performance and release, with no clearly stated themes. However, most of the experimental works which influenced me usually had a stated concept or ideas behind them. This recording represents my desire to put something out into this modern noise landscape that is as purpose-driven as the works which influenced me in my youth. Both selections have been constructed out of various different ideas I recorded, then arranged accordingly.
The first piece, "To Wm. With Love," was inspired by and is dedicated to William M. Berger, one of my best friends and, like me, a lifelong appreciator of noise. All the emotions I felt upon his untimely loss in 2017 were upfront in my mind during the creation of this piece. This piece aims to express both the love I have for him and the sadness I felt upon losing him, all in wordless sound form, and is completely from the heart and soul.
The second piece, "Static Forest," was specially created as the soundtrack to a new short experimental film in partnership with my longtime friend and collaborator, Joshua Rogers of Broken Machine Films. Josh had invited me to perform in a online virtual concert on his behalf, but as I find such concerts to be limiting and frustrating for the most part, I instead took the opportunity to suggest we collaborate together on this short film which would better represent our talents and ideas. I provided the soundtrack in advance and then told Josh to have his way with it, which he did most splendidly. I've been involved with film shorts in the past but never in a soundtrack role, so this is an exciting new opportunity and something I've long wanted to do.
